6 MUST WATCH Streaming Shows Featuring Queer Women


Woo woo! Pride month is around the corner and we are happy to kick off the LGBTQ celebration by sharing QUEER CINEMA with you ladies!

SOMEONE GREAT: First up is Someone Great on Netflix! Featured alongside Gina Rodriguez and Brittany Snow, Dewanda Wise plays a witty, twenty something year old lesbian who has serious commitment issues. She’s wonderful on the show and exactly the kind of friend we all need to get through a breakup successfully.


THE PERFECTION: Oooh goodness, talk about a CRAZY ass movie! If you want to watch something suspenseful that involves queer women as STRONG female leads, you definitely need to check out The Perfection on Netflix. By the end of the film you’ll be wondering “what the hell did I just watch”? Check I tout and share with a friend who LOVES suspense!


30: What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of queer women in Houston? Well thanks to the new streaming series “30”, you’ll be able to see what that looks like! The main cast is comprised of a number of women color which his very cool. The first season will be available on Amazon Prime this fall so be on the lookout for that AND check out their pilot episode HERE.


TALES OF THE CITY: AMAZING! Staff writer of OITNB and wife of Samira Wiley, Lauren Morelli, is an executive producer on the newest queer show on Netflix, Tales of the City! The show is set in San Fransisco where viewers follow the stories of a number of queer, trans, and bisexual men and women who live in a community on Barbary Lane. Check it out on Netflix and congrats to Lauren on wrapping a first season of this show!

BROWN GIRLS: Has anyone else checked out Brown Girls online? The show features two young women who are best friends thriving in Chicago. One is queer and the other is body positive. Together they navigate dating ad love the best way they know how. We LOVE the queer storyline in this series. You can watch season one HERE.

TRINKETS: Who’s ready for teen angst and kleptomaniac drama? Well you’re in luck! There’s a FAB lesbian storyline on the first season of Trinkets and it just so happens to be with the main character, Elody. Her storyline is adorable and reminds viewers of what it’s like to be a newbie in the gay community. Check out Trinkets on Netflix and share with friends!
