TFF: Tell us a little about how you got started modeling. What inspired you to start?
Madison Paige: The powerful women in my family inspired me at a young age. My mother, grandmother and aunt on either sides of my family were models and growing up I aspired to have their confidence and grace, but with my own androgynous twist.
TFF: If you had to choose one album to listen to for the rest of your life, what album would you choose and why?
MP: Hands down I'd have to go with any of my self-made mix tapes from middle school. I was known in school for having an eccentric music taste so everyone would ask me to make playlists for them. They are full of teenage angst and memories. I never get sick of listening to Coheed and Cambria, James Blake, Miguel, The Skins or anything by Yes.
TFF: What does the word “andro” mean to you?
MP: I see it as a way for other people to easily define or categorize who I am- to make sense of it. People are scared of the unknown so they always tend to label things. But andro, to me, means truly being able to express yourself anywhere on the scale of masculinity vs. femininity: to be comfortable with either extreme all the way to being neutral and anywhere in between.
TFF: When did you realize you have a passion for music?
MP: I always knew it as a passion or hobby. My dad was a producer at one point in my childhood, so we had musicians around all the time. He always pushed me to sing, but I was way too shy. It took me until high school to start playing for friends.
TFF: This is your first Dinah Shore. What are you expecting from the experience?
MP: I mean of course I'm expecting great exposure and a chance to shine, but over all of that I simply hope to inspire other creatives to put themselves out there. There tends to be a lot of judgment in the "lesbian scene" so some unity would be refreshing.
TFF: What can Dinah attendees expect from your performance this year?
MP: They can expect to be shocked, impressed and excited for what will come next. I want to be a strong voice for my community and show them I'm passionate about more than one form of art.
